Makueni County minibus crash kills seven and injures dozens

A minibus accident in Makueni County, Kenya, resulted in at least seven deaths and dozens of injuries on Friday night. The vehicle, carrying approximately 50 passengers, was traveling from Ivingoni Ward to Kyathi for a dowry ceremony when it lost control and plunged down an escarpment near Kalembwani.

Reports indicate the vehicle may have lost its brakes while descending a steep section of the road, causing it to veer off the path and roll several times. The wreckage was described as completely destroyed.

Casualties include six men and one woman who died at the scene. At least 28 to 30 people sustained various injuries, with some requiring specialized treatment at Wote County Hospital and Makueni County Referral Hospital, while others were treated at Matiliku Sub-County Hospital. A multi-agency response involving the Kenya Red Cross, local disaster management officials, and police attended the scene.
