Malé resident's hunger strike leads to arrest in harassment case
A resident of Malé, Mohamed Saeed, launched a hunger strike at the Henveiru Police Station on Saturday to demand action against a long-standing public nuisance. Saeed claimed that for approximately one and a half years, a man identified as Ahmed Farish had been harassing residents, pedestrians, and motorists in the Kashimaa Hingun and Dhoohimeri Magu areas.
Saeed alleged that the suspect engaged in various disruptive behaviors, including shouting obscenities, obstructing traffic with motorcycles and road signs, throwing garbage and liquids from a balcony, and entering residential buildings without permission. Despite submitting evidence and filing multiple complaints, Saeed stated that authorities had failed to resolve the issue, prompting his protest.
Following the hunger strike, police confirmed on Saturday night that the accused individual, Ahmed Farish, has been arrested. No further details regarding the arrest or the specific charges were provided by the authorities.
