Banja Luka hosts 31st International Book Fair
The 31st International Book Fair has opened in Banja Luka, organized by ‘Glasa Srpske’. The event commemorates the 200th anniversary of the founding of Matica srpska and the 150th anniversary of the births of writers Bora Stanković and Milan Rakić. Dragan Stanić, President of Matica srpska, emphasized the importance of culture in maintaining national unity.
In Tuzla, the Third Book Fair is also underway at the ‘Sveti Franjo’ Cultural Center, running until September 27. The fair features approximately 60 book promotions and over 100 programs, including workshops and author meetings, aimed at fostering a reading culture among younger generations.
Religious observances are also prominent, with many celebrating Mala Gospojina, the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Traditions associated with this day include specific folk beliefs regarding weather predictions for the coming winter, as well as customs related to weddings, agriculture, and the medicinal properties of herbs gathered during this period.
