Malabar Gold faces fraud investigation in Chhattisgarh

Police in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the manager and employees of a Malabar Gold & Diamonds showroom following allegations of gold purity fraud.

The incident occurred when a customer attempted to exchange a 22-carat, HUID-hallmarked gold bracelet. According to reports, the showroom’s XRF testing machine repeatedly showed the bracelet as 20-carat. However, after an employee allegedly adjusted the machine's settings, the reading changed to the correct 22-carat purity.

Authorities have seized the gold-testing machine and a digital video recorder (DVR) as part of the investigation. The FIR was filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, relating to cheating and common intention.
