Malaga masonry team wins 59th National Masonry Competition

A masonry team from Malaga, consisting of foreman Javier Vargas and assistant Manuel Fuentes, won first prize at the 59th National Masonry Competition organized by Peña El Palustre. The duo earned 6,000 euros for constructing a complex, double-curved, cantilevered brick panel designed by architect Demófilo Peláez.

The competition, held in the El Palo district, featured 28 teams from various regions including Andalusia and Extremadura. The second-place prize of 2,500 euros went to a team from Riolobos, Cáceres, while the third-place prize of 1,500 euros was awarded to a team from La Nava de Santiago, Badajoz. A team from Herrera, Seville, secured fourth place.

Founded in 1967, the contest has evolved from a local club challenge into a major national event for masonry professionals. The competition will mark its 60th anniversary next year.
