Malaika Mihambo loses German long jump title to Mikaelle Assani

At the German national athletics championships in Bochum's Lohrheidestadion, Olympic long jump champion Malaika Mihambo was edged out, finishing second with a best jump of 6.63 m. Mikaelle Assani claimed the title with 6.67 m, handling the breezy conditions better.

Mihambo said, “Der Wind war nicht auf meiner Seite,” attributing her shortfall to the wind. The meet also featured sprinter Owen Ansah winning the 200 m in 20.13 seconds. These results come weeks before the European championships in Birmingham.
