Malang Customs Seizes 2.01 tons of Illegal Tobacco

Indonesia’s Customs office in Malang intercepted a yellow truck on 11 June 2026 at about 12:00 WIB, halting a shipment of 2.01 tonnes (67 bags, each 30 kg) of untaxed, un‑packaged tobacco ready for production. The cargo was lacking any customs documentation and was slated for distribution outside the Malang area.

Customs officers seized the goods, detained the driver and vehicle, and escorted the contraband to the Malang customs headquarters for further examination. The seized tobacco was valued at roughly Rp 554.8 million, averting an estimated loss of Rp 60.3 million to the state. Customs chief Johan Pandores urged the public to report suspected illegal tobacco activities, emphasizing the role of community cooperation in protecting revenue and ensuring fair competition.

The operation underscores the agency’s ongoing effort to curb the circulation of illicit tobacco products, which threaten government revenue and public health.
