Malatya Airport opens new terminal to boost capacity
Malatya Airport has officially opened its new 26,765-square-meter terminal building to accommodate rising air traffic. The facility began operations with its first passengers arriving on a flight from Istanbul.
According to Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, the new terminal significantly expands the airport's annual passenger capacity from 1.2 million to 2.5 million. This expansion follows a massive increase in traffic; annual passenger numbers rose from approximately 89,645 in 2003 to nearly 850,000 in 2025, while aircraft traffic increased by 433%.
The modern terminal features 18 check-in counters, 12 passport control desks, and dedicated VIP and CIP areas. The infrastructure includes a 102,927-square-meter apron with 13 aircraft parking spaces, capable of servicing 5 to 6 aircraft simultaneously. Additional amenities include a 498-vehicle parking lot, social areas, and children's play zones.
