Malatya earthquake reconstruction sees new home deliveries and a major site fire
In Malatya, Turkey, reconstruction efforts following the February 6 earthquakes have reached a milestone in the Akçadağ district. Governor Seddar Yavuz announced that 30 rural reinforced concrete houses in the Keller neighborhood are ready for handover, with keys being delivered to eligible residents starting Monday, August 17.
However, the reconstruction process faced a setback in the Yeşilyurt district. A fire broke out at a construction site for earthquake housing, specifically targeting the container barracks where workers reside. While more than 200 workers managed to evacuate safely without any reported deaths or injuries, the blaze destroyed approximately 180 containers. Firefighting teams spent roughly two hours controlling the flames and preventing the fire from reaching a nearby diesel tanker. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
