Malatya Darende fire injures 19, no fatalities as blaze is contained

A fire broke out around 13:30 on 2 August 2026 in Yeşiltaş Mahallesi, Darende district of Malatya Province. The cause was not immediately known. The blaze spread to a house and outbuildings, damaging the roofs of two barns and one house.

Nineteen people, including one firefighter (identified as F. K.), suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Darende State Hospital. Their conditions were reported as generally good. Firefighters, municipal water tankers, the Forest General Directorate, AFAD, UMKE units and helicopters assisted in extinguishing the fire.

Local officials, including Darende Mayor Alican Bozkurt and Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz, praised the coordinated response and confirmed that the fire was brought under control with ongoing cooling operations. No deaths were reported.
