Malatya hosts international wrestling tournament with 1,200 athletes
The Malatya International Wrestling Tournament has commenced at the Orduzu Sports Complex, bringing together approximately 1,200 athletes from 15 different countries. Participating nations include Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Germany, Iran, the United Kingdom, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iraq, Russia, Tunisia, and Northern Cyprus.
Taha Akgül, President of the Turkish Wrestling Federation, emphasized the importance of the event for regional development and athlete confidence. He noted that competing against international opponents provides invaluable experience for young wrestlers. Akgül expressed the federation's ambition to expand the tournament next year, targeting a participation level of 2,000 to 3,000 athletes.
In a separate regional event in Tortum, Erzurum, the 136th Golden Belt Karakucak Wrestling Festival concluded with Fatih Yaşarlı winning the championship and the gold belt. The festival featured approximately 600 wrestlers from Turkey, Georgia, and Iran.
