Malatya invests 4 billion TL in sports and cultural infrastructure

Malatya Metropolitan Municipality is implementing a 4 billion TL investment program to rebuild the city’s sports and cultural infrastructure following the February 6 earthquakes. During a recent ‘Sports Summit’ attended by former national footballers such as Tanju Çolak, Hami Mandıralı, and Ahmet Dursun, Mayor Sami Er announced that the city is constructing approximately 43 sports facilities and 13 libraries.

The investment includes six major complexes featuring semi-olympic swimming pools, as well as large basketball and volleyball halls. A significant portion of these facilities is expected to be operational by the end of the year. Long-term projects include a 350-decare ‘Sports Village’ and the conversion of a 1 million square meter area into a recreation and sports zone.

In addition to infrastructure, the municipality is focusing on professional development and emergency services. The local fire department has completed specialized training under the PACE Project, covering topics such as electric vehicle fires and urban search and rescue. The municipality also aims to support local football, specifically targeting the advancement of Yeşilyurtspor to the Super League.
