Malatya man builds 36-square-meter house on 150-year-old oak tree

In the Hekimhan district of Malatya, retired civil servant Mustafa Kahraman has constructed a 36-square-meter house atop a 150-year-old oak tree located in his childhood garden.

The structure was built in 2019 using wooden materials specially sourced from the Black Sea region. To maintain the tree's natural integrity, the design allows some branches to pass through the interior of the rooms. The house is accessible via a staircase of approximately 25 steps.

Beyond its unique appearance, the tree house has served as a practical refuge for Kahraman and his family, providing shelter during both the COVID-19 pandemic and the earthquakes on February 6.
