Malatya accelerates post-earthquake urban reconstruction
Malatya Metropolitan Municipality is accelerating urban reconstruction and normalization efforts following the February 6 earthquakes. Mayor Sami Er announced that container areas for residents and tradespeople are being removed as permanent housing and workplaces reach completion.
Significant infrastructure projects are also underway, particularly in the Akpınar district. The Akpınar Avenue project is entering its final stages, involving the complete renewal of water, sewage, natural gas, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure. The road is being redesigned as a 30-meter wide, dual-carriageway thoroughfare to connect key city arteries to the Northern Belt Road.
In addition to urban center developments, the municipality is extending services to rural areas, such as the Yazıhan district, to ensure comprehensive regional recovery. Mayor Er emphasized that the goal is to build a modern, resilient city rather than simply repairing earthquake damage.
