Malatya reconstruction focuses on multi-center urban planning

At the ‘Brand Cities in the Century of Türkiye’ summit in Istanbul, Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Sami Er detailed the city’s reconstruction following the February 6 earthquakes. Er stated that the rebuilding process involves approximately 125,000 independent units of housing and workplaces.

The reconstruction strategy aims to transform Malatya from a single-center city into a modern, multi-center urban area. This approach seeks to create new residential and commercial hubs in various regions to reduce socio-economic segregation and mitigate the impact of damage to the old bazaar center.

Er emphasized that the planning process prioritizes preserving the city’s demographic and social fabric, allowing citizens to remain within their established social circles and neighborhoods. The project also includes a comprehensive focus on revitalizing industrial areas and enhancing urban infrastructure.
