Malawi Freedom Fighters urge President Mutharika to support parliamentary oversight

President Arthur Peter Mutharika is facing pressure from the Malawi Freedom Fighters (MFF) to bolster parliamentary oversight. In a letter dated September 5, 2026, the MFF urged the President to support the establishment of adequately funded and empowered parliamentary committees to investigate critical governance and service-delivery issues.

The MFF is calling for investigations into public finance management, fuel procurement, social protection programs, health, and education services. The group argues that for an anti-corruption agenda to be credible, Parliament must have the authority to summon officials, examine records, and engage independent experts to ensure accountability goes beyond mere headlines.
