Malawi man killed by lion escaped from Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve

A 30-year-old man, Clement Munthali, has been killed by a lion believed to have escaped from the Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve in the Mzimba District of Malawi. The attack occurred in the area of Senior Chief Mpherembe during the night.

Local legislator Ackim Kumwenda reported that the lion had been attacking livestock in surrounding communities for approximately four days prior to the fatal incident. Residents have expressed fear for their safety, and Kumwenda has appealed to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to deploy additional officers to locate and capture the animal.

In addition to the lion attack, local communities are facing increased human-wildlife conflict, with reports of hyenas killing more than 50 livestock animals in the same area over the past four days.
