Malawi National Council of Sports launches new five-year strategic plan

The Malawi National Council of Sports has launched a new five-year strategic plan for 2026 to 2031 in Lilongwe. The roadmap aims to strengthen the management and development of the nation's sports sector by focusing on governance, talent identification, infrastructure, and resource mobilization.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata called on the private sector to increase financial support for sports infrastructure and development, noting the sector's potential for job creation. He also warned that the ministry would not tolerate the diversion of sports resources for personal interests.

Jim Kalua, Board Chairperson of the Council, emphasized that sporting excellence requires ethical and professional leadership. He challenged sports associations to prioritize accountability, improved financial controls, and the effective execution of strategic plans to build trust among athletes, sponsors, and the public.
