Malawi netball teams face setbacks at Africa Netball Cup

Malawi's national netball teams faced challenges at the 2026 Africa Netball Cup. The women's team, the Malawi Queens, failed to reach the tournament final, highlighting increased competition from nations such as South Africa and Uganda.

The men's team, the Malawi Kings, finished their campaign without a win, losing all four pool matches against Kenya, Eswatini, South Africa, and Uganda. While the Kings showed early competitiveness in several matches, they struggled to maintain performance throughout the full duration of the games.

Following the tournament, head coach Garvey Nyondo noted a structural deficiency in Malawian men's netball, specifically the lack of an active domestic league to develop players. This stands in contrast to the women's game, which benefits from the FDH Bank Premier Netball League.
