Malawi police offer reward after abduction of British national

Nusrat Osman, a 47-year-old British national and auditor, was abducted in broad daylight in the Mount Pleasant area of Blantyre, Malawi. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11, when four men reportedly emerged from a grey Nissan Dualis and seized her near her home.

The Malawi Police Service has launched an investigation and is offering a reward of 30 million Malawian kwacha (approximately £12,600 or $17,000) for credible information that leads to her rescue and the conviction of those responsible. Authorities have utilized mass text messages to reach residents and have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardize the case.

As of the latest reports, the kidnappers have not contacted the family to demand a ransom, and a motive for the abduction remains unknown. Osman’s husband, Nazil Osman, stated he has no information regarding her whereabouts or the reason for her disappearance. The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is aware of the situation and is coordinating with local authorities.
