Malawi Scorchers advance in Olympic qualifiers with 7-0 win over Zimbabwe

The Malawi women’s national football team, known as the Scorchers, secured progression in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics qualifiers after a dominant 7-0 victory over Zimbabwe in Harare. This result gave Malawi a 9-0 aggregate win following their 2-0 victory in the first leg in Lilongwe.

Temwa Chawinga scored a hat-trick during the match, supported by a goal from her sister, Tabitha Chawinga. Other scorers included Chisomo Banda, Asimenye Simwaka, and Sarah Mulimbika. The defeat eliminates Zimbabwe from the Olympic qualifying race.

Following the match, Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili issued a warning to upcoming opponents, including Kenya, stating that the team should not be taken for granted. He noted that while the performance was a statement of intent, there are still areas for the team to polish as they continue their campaign.
