Malawi seeks to boost pharmaceutical trade via India expo
Indian High Commissioner Amararam Gurjar is promoting the 12th India Pharmaceutical Exhibition (Iphex) 2026 as a vital opportunity for Malawi to enhance its healthcare sector and supply chain partnerships. The expo, scheduled for September 7–9, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, aims to facilitate technology transfer and commercial growth.
Malawi seeks to reduce its 80 percent reliance on pharmaceutical imports through intensified business partnerships with Indian companies. Moses Chisale, CEO of the Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST), indicated that strengthening these ties is essential for stabilizing the supply of medicines and upscaling local production capabilities.
This collaboration follows a 2024 memorandum of understanding between India and Malawi regarding pharmacopoeial cooperation, intended to align regulatory standards and streamline the registration of high-quality medicines.
