Malawi Vice-President Jane Ansah alleges government sidelining
Malawi’s First Vice-President, Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah, has alleged that she is being systematically sidelined and marginalized by officials within the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
In recent interviews, Ansah claimed that the hostility began immediately following her selection as running mate for the 2025 General Election. She reported receiving a cold reception from party officials and noted that she was excluded from the President’s first address after winning the election.
Ansah specifically accused Chief Secretary to Government, Dr. Justin Saidi, of obstructing her duties by withholding the customary “Cabinet bag” of essential papers and failing to respond to her communications. She stated that she has attempted to resolve these issues through formal letters to Saidi but has received no response.
Despite these claims of being ostracized from Cabinet meetings and party functions, Ansah maintained that her relationship with President Peter Mutharika remains cordial and that she intends to follow official procedures to resolve the matter rather than escalating it directly to the President.
