Malaysia advances regional diplomacy with Myanmar and strategic ties with Jordan

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has indicated a willingness to facilitate Myanmar’s reintegration into ASEAN engagement. While maintaining a distinction between diplomatic dialogue and formal recognition of the military-backed administration, the move aims to address the ongoing political crisis and humanitarian challenges resulting from the 2021 coup.

In a separate diplomatic development, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with King Abdullah II of Jordan during the King's state visit to Malaysia. The discussions focused on strategic cooperation in high-tech sectors, including semiconductor ecosystems, higher education, and technical training. The leaders also explored expanding trade through potential free trade agreements and cooperation in energy, transport, and the halal industry. Both leaders expressed a unified stance on the geopolitical situation in West Asia, calling for an immediate end to violence against Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.
