Malaysia and Pakistan sign international prisoner transfer treaty

Malaysia and Pakistan have signed the International Transfer of Offenders (ITOP) treaty, allowing prisoners from both nations to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home countries. The agreement was signed by Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Pakistani Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi during an official visit to Islamabad.

Beyond prisoner transfers, the two nations agreed to strengthen cooperation in several security and law enforcement sectors. Key areas of focus include intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism, drug eradication, cross-border crime prevention, cyber security, immigration, human trafficking, and maritime enforcement.

To ensure effective implementation, both countries have agreed in principle to establish a joint working group to coordinate follow-up actions. The visit also included high-level meetings between the Malaysian Home Minister, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and General Asim Munir to discuss regional security and defense cooperation.
