Malaysia and South Korea strengthen smart transport cooperation
Malaysia and South Korea are enhancing strategic cooperation in road and highway infrastructure development through the sharing of expertise, technology, and modern management methods. During the 2026 Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress in Gangneung, South Korea, Malaysian Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi held bilateral meetings with South Korean officials to review the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding transport systems.
Technical discussions are scheduled between the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and the Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) to detail the application of new technologies and approaches in highway development and management. Malaysia also highlighted its MyJalan application and the use of digital technology for asset management as part of its smart transport transformation efforts.
The ITS World Congress features sessions on hyper-connected mobility services, V2X technologies, and the integration of AI-based real-time monitoring and IoT sensors for pavement quality control. The event also addresses infrastructure resilience and managing road traffic during large-scale emergency situations using real-time information services.
