Malaysia and Thailand to discuss Southern Thailand security

Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan is set to meet his Thai counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, this Monday to discuss security and peace in Southern Thailand.

Thailand has honored Malaysia to act as a facilitator in negotiations involving various stakeholders to find solutions for the region's security issues. Mohamad noted that achieving peace will be challenging due to the complexity of the various interest groups involved, comparing the difficulty to the situation in Myanmar. However, he emphasized that stability is essential for the significant border trade between Malaysia and Thailand and for the safety of Malaysian citizens visiting the country.
