Malaysia and Turkiye aim for RM40.6 billion trade target by 2030

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the trade target between Malaysia and Turkiye, valued at RM40.6 billion by 2030, is achievable. Speaking at the TRT World Forum 2026 in Istanbul, he noted that defense and security equipment procurement will play a significant role in reaching this goal.

Zahid emphasized that defense cooperation with Turkiye is a strategic choice involving the transfer of knowledge and technology rather than mere asset acquisition. Malaysia has already received Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) from Turkiye. He suggested that such partnerships strengthen bilateral ties and contribute to regional stability in Southeast Asia.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of military diplomacy in maintaining political stability within ASEAN, particularly to prevent major powers from exerting undue influence over member states. He expressed confidence that closer cooperation in defense and technology would drive both nations toward higher bilateral trade, aiming for a target of USD10 billion.
