Malaysia Communications Minister addresses media copyright and financial support
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has issued a reminder to social media operators to respect the copyright of mainstream news content. He noted that the ministry has received complaints regarding individuals using journalistic work without permission or proper credit to the original media organizations.
Fahmi advised journalists whose work is used without authorization to lodge complaints with the Malaysian Media Council (MMM) or the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) if the issue involves social media platforms.
Regarding industry stability, Fahmi invited media companies facing financial or operational difficulties to discuss potential assistance with the Ministry of Communications. He highlighted the Media Innovation Fund 2.0, which is open for applications from November 1 to November 14. To qualify for the fund, media organizations must not engage in arbitrary layoffs. The fund covers areas such as artificial intelligence utilization, training, and equipment procurement to help organizations strengthen operations and explore new revenue streams.
