Malaysia conducts Year 4 Learning Matrix assessment for 460,000 students
Approximately 460,771 Year 4 students across Malaysia are participating in the Year 4 Learning Matrix (MPT4) assessment, which runs until October 8. The Ministry of Education introduced this measurement to gauge student proficiency, specifically in literacy and numeracy.
Ab Aziz Mamat, Director of Examinations at the Examination Board, clarified that MPT4 is not a high-stakes examination. He emphasized that the results are not used for student placement or as criteria for admission into specialized schools, which continue to use the Special School Admission Assessment (PKSK) method.
The primary goal of the assessment is to provide data that helps the Ministry of Education, state and district education departments, schools, and teachers identify student strengths and areas requiring support. This information is intended to facilitate early intervention and more effective learning support tailored to individual student needs.
