Malaysia cricket campaign ends in washout at Asian Games
Malaysia’s cricket campaign at the 2026 Asian Games ended without a ball being bowled after persistent rain washed out their men’s quarter-final match against Bangladesh. Due to tournament qualification rules, Bangladesh advanced to the semi-finals based on their superior ICC ranking.
Malaysian all-rounder Virandeep Singh drew social media attention following the abandonment. In a humorous yet emotional post on X, Singh noted he was “in my towel” when he received news that the match was called off, highlighting the frustration of missing a long-awaited opportunity to play against a Test-playing nation.
The washout was part of a broader trend affecting the tournament's knockout stage, as several other quarter-finals, including India vs Afghanistan and Sri Lanka vs Nepal, were also abandoned due to weather. Bangladesh is scheduled to face Pakistan in the semi-finals.
