Malaysia football officials deny Hajime Moriyasu rumors
Speculation has emerged regarding Hajime Moriyasu, the current head coach of the Japan national football team, potentially taking over the Malaysia national team. Reports suggest that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is seeking highly experienced foreign coaches as part of a long-term strategy to prepare for the 2030 World Cup qualifiers and the 2031 Asian Cup.
Moriyasu’s current contract with the Japan Football Association (JFA) is expected to conclude following the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. This has led to media speculation that he may seek new international challenges.
However, FAM President Ab Ghani Hassan has officially addressed these rumors, stating that the association has not made any specific moves to approach or negotiate with Moriyasu. He clarified that while the FAM is considering foreign appointments, any such decision would be thoroughly discussed by the executive committee rather than being a unilateral move.
