Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation targets global tech leadership

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is advocating for a strategic shift in the nation’s digital transformation, moving from mere participation to global leadership. Fadzli Abdul Wahit, MDEC senior vice president of corporate affairs, emphasized the need to focus on commercializing innovation and scaling homegrown solutions in sectors such as artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and data platforms.

Under the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan, the country aims to become a sustainable AI nation and a regional digital technology hub by 2030. Additionally, the Malaysia Digital Action Plan 2030 (MD2030) targets the digital economy contributing 30% of the nation's GDP by the end of the decade. This strategy involves attracting high-quality digital investments while simultaneously empowering Malaysian companies to expand their presence in international markets.
