Malaysia emphasizes ethical AI and workforce readiness
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized that technological advancements, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, must be grounded in ethics, culture, and societal values. Speaking at the International Future Conference 2026, Ibrahim argued that progress should not focus solely on algorithms or economic outcomes but must integrate philosophy, history, and morality to ensure technology remains people-centric and inclusive.
In the private sector, Malaysia is experiencing a significant shift in workforce dynamics due to AI integration. According to Alex Tan, Managing Director of HP Malaysia, approximately 93 percent of workers in the country have begun using generative AI in their daily tasks, with 76 percent reporting significant productivity gains. As AI becomes more deeply embedded in local workspaces over the next three to five years, organizations are increasingly focused on ensuring secure implementation and addressing the need for workforce skill development and structural efficiency.
