Malaysia enhances employment support and talent development initiatives
Malaysia is implementing several measures to enhance labor market efficiency and talent development. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan announced that SOCSO contributors securing new jobs more than 100km from their homes will receive a one-off RM1,000 Mobility Assistance Allowance starting October 1. This is part of amendments to the Employment Insurance System (EIS) Act 2017, which also includes increasing the Early Re-employment Allowance from 25 to 50 percent and raising daily training stipends from RM10 to RM30.
In Sarawak, officials are emphasizing the need for better alignment between education and industry. Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, urged school counselors to update career guidance to reflect modern economic needs and high-skilled opportunities. The SPEAK: Talent Bridge 2030 program was highlighted as a platform to bridge the gap between students and the industrial sector.
Academic experts, including Dr. Tanusree Chakravarty Mukherjee from Curtin University Malaysia, noted that the focus must shift from merely creating jobs to providing high-value positions that match local skills. Strengthening ties between educational institutions and industries is seen as essential to ensure graduates can enter high-productivity sectors such as green industry and advanced manufacturing.
