Malaysia faces severe haze in Sarawak and fatal highway accident

While Malaysia celebrates its National Day, the nation faces two significant crises. In Sarawak, worsening haze conditions have seen the Air Pollutant Index (API) exceed 400, prompting discussions regarding a potential state of emergency if levels reach critical thresholds similar to the 1997 crisis.

Additionally, a tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on the East Coast Expressway (LPT1) in Lanchang, Temerloh. A cement tanker lost control and struck several vehicles, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a family of three. The victims were reportedly traveling back to Kuantan after celebrating Independence Day in Putrajaya.
