Malaysia finalizes appointment of new Deputy IGP

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has announced that the selection process for the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has been finalized. The appointment was conducted through the Police Force Commission in accordance with the Federal Constitution, following consultations with the King.

Saifuddin stated that a candidate has been named and an official announcement is expected within the next few hours or within the next one to two days. The position became vacant following the mandatory retirement of Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay in July. Since then, Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus has been serving as the acting deputy IGP.

Regarding eligibility, the Home Minister noted that all officers holding the rank of Police Commissioner (CP) are eligible for consideration. There are currently 25 officers with this rank, plus three others holding the rank in special capacities.
