Malaysia focuses on AI talent development and ethical integration

Malaysian leadership is emphasizing a dual approach to the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on both ethical integration and domestic technological development.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that while the Muslim community must embrace advancements in AI, quantum computing, and digitalization, such progress must not compromise religious principles, ethics, or identity. He emphasized that technological mastery should be rooted in local values rather than merely imitating foreign influences.

Complementing this, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced that Malaysia is prioritizing the development of local AI talent and companies. The goal is to transition from being mere users of technology to becoming developers capable of competing globally. To manage the rapid evolution and risks of AI, the government has established ‘AI Malaysia,’ a body designed to gather experts to identify emerging technologies and assess potential legal and security risks.
