Malaysia fuel prices reduced by 5 sen for early September

Malaysia's Ministry of Finance has announced a 5-sen per litre reduction in the retail prices of RON97 petrol, unsubsidised RON95 petrol, and unsubsidised diesel for the week of 3 to 9 September 2026.

Under the new rates, RON97 is set at RM4.25 per litre, unsubsidised RON95 at RM3.77 per litre, and unsubsidised diesel at RM4.67 per litre. The Ministry attributed the decrease to lower global crude oil prices during the majority of the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) calculation period.

However, officials noted that geopolitical tensions in West Asia caused prices to rise again toward the end of the period. The Ministry also highlighted that the global market for refined petroleum products remains tight due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, reduced refining capacity, and fuel export restrictions. While China has begun easing its petroleum export restrictions, regional supplies have not yet fully returned to pre-conflict levels. To mitigate global volatility, the government will continue its BUDI MADANI targeted subsidy program for eligible consumers.
