Malaysia hits six gold medal target at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games

Malaysia has achieved its target of six gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. The milestone was reached following successful defenses in squash by Ng Eain Yow and S. Sivasangari in the men’s and women’s singles categories, respectively.

In a historic achievement, the national sepak takraw team, known as the ‘Golden Tigers’, secured the gold medal in the men’s team regu event by defeating Thailand 2-0. This victory ends a 36-year gold medal drought for Malaysia in this specific event, marking their first such win since the 1990 Beijing games. Despite facing various injuries during preparation, the squad managed to overcome the regional powerhouse.

Other notable performances include silver and bronze medals in diving, with Enrique Harrold and Elvis Priestly earning silver in the men’s synchronized 10m platform, and Ong Ker Ying-Lee and Yiat Qing earning bronze in the women’s synchronized 3m springboard. In athletics, Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee reached the men’s 200m final, marking the first time a Malaysian has reached that stage in 44 years.
