Malaysia integrates water and energy systems to boost national resilience

Malaysia is integrating its water and energy systems through the ‘Regenerative Water-Energy Nexus’ approach to strengthen national resilience and support sustainable growth. Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, stated that this integrated framework connects water and energy systems to enhance productivity and resource security.

The initiative is supported by the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and focuses on three national priorities, including building a robust water security foundation through the Water Sector 2040 (AIR2040) and the development of a Water Reclamation Policy. This strategy aims to expand clean energy use and stimulate high-value economic growth.

In Sarawak, the transition toward clean energy is moving from the strategic phase to implementation. Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, noted that the shift is being driven by strong policy direction, technological advancements, and close cooperation between the government and industry. The focus includes large-scale renewable energy, grid modernization, distributed clean energy use, and corporate energy adoption to establish a resilient energy ecosystem.
