Malaysia JPJ identifies illegal motorcycle rental industry

The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has identified a profitable illegal industry involving the rental of motorcycles to undocumented foreign nationals. Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan reported that some operators own between 50 and 150 motorcycles for this purpose.

Operators are reportedly charging higher rental rates, ranging from RM50 to RM100, to undocumented individuals. The high profits from these rentals often exceed the cost of legal fines, leading some operators to disregard enforcement risks. Authorities noted that this trend prioritizes profit over road safety.

Significant presence of undocumented foreign riders has been identified in Klang Valley areas such as Selayang, Ampang, and Cheras, as well as in Putrajaya. Enforcement officers have noted that many of these individuals lack valid work permits or proper documentation.
