Malaysia launches Hari Cuci Malaysia 2026 recycling initiative
The Hari Cuci Malaysia (HCM) 2026 initiative aims to mobilize 200,000 participants nationwide to collect an estimated 28,000 kilograms of recyclable materials in a single day. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming announced that online registrations have already exceeded 95,000 people, with activities spanning 469 locations across the country.
This year, the Ministry of Education Malaysia has joined as a strategic partner, involving 10,000 schools. The program also integrates physical and co-curricular assessments (PAJSK) to encourage youth participation in environmental stewardship.
At the local level in Sarikei, the district council is targeting the collection of five tons of waste, recyclables, and used cooking oil. The local program focuses on cleaning over 10 sites to prevent Aedes mosquito breeding through the ‘10 Minute Search and Destroy’ campaign, aiming to reduce dengue risks by encouraging residents to eliminate stagnant water at home.
