Malaysia leads trade mission to India to boost palm oil exports

Malaysia's Plantation and Commodities Minister, Dr. Noraini Ahmad, will lead an official trade mission to India from September 27 to October 1, 2026. Coordinated by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), the mission aims to expand commercial cooperation and reinforce Malaysia's position as a supplier of sustainable palm oil and value-added products.

The mission will include visits to Bengaluru and Mumbai to meet with government officials, industry associations, and technology providers. India has been Malaysia’s largest palm oil export market for 13 consecutive years. In 2025, Malaysia exported 2.94 million tonnes of palm oil and palm-based products to India, valued at RM14.15 billion.

Data from the first eight months of 2026 shows Malaysian palm oil exports to India increased by 40.4% to 2.26 million tonnes, with Malaysia’s share of India’s palm oil imports rising to 39.2%. Palm oil is a critical component of India's food supply, accounting for approximately 51% of its edible oil imports and 34% of its total edible oil consumption.
