Malaysia lowers unsubsidised petrol and diesel prices

Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance has announced a reduction in retail fuel prices for the period of October 1 to 7. Unsubsidised RON97 and RON95 petrol will each decrease by 5 sen per litre, while unsubsidised diesel will drop by 15 sen per litre.

The new rates set RON97 at RM5.00 per litre and unsubsidised RON95 at RM4.52 per litre. Unsubsidised diesel is priced at RM5.27 per litre. For those under the BUDI MADANI subsidy program, RON95 remains at RM1.99 per litre and diesel at RM2.10 per litre.

The price adjustments are attributed to moderating global crude oil prices following the resumption of operations at Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline. Additionally, refined petroleum supplies in Asia have shown signs of recovery, supported by increased Chinese exports. However, officials noted that global supply remains volatile due to a Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian refinery in Perm and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
