Malaysia Minister calls for probe into viral video insulting Rukun Negara

National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang has called for an immediate and thorough investigation by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) following a viral video of a stage performance. The video, uploaded by The Fever Kinetic Theatre on Instagram, allegedly contains elements that insult the Malay monarchy, the nation of Malaysia, and the Rukun Negara, the country’s national ideology.

The viral clip reportedly shows actors telling individuals to ‘go back’ to China, India, and Indonesia, while repeatedly using the phrase ‘This is Malaysia’. The minister described the performance as irresponsible and provocative, stating that freedom of expression should not be used to undermine national institutions or social harmony.

Minister Aaron emphasized that the Rukun Negara, proclaimed on August 31, 1970, serves as a vital guide for national unity. He noted that if legal violations are found, authorities should consider various provisions, including the Penal Code, the Sedition Act 1948, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
