Malaysia Ministry of Health launches initiatives to curb nurse migration
The Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) has introduced several initiatives to improve nurse welfare and curb the migration of nursing professionals to foreign countries. According to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, the ministry is focusing on two main approaches: accelerating the recruitment of new nurses and strengthening the retention of existing staff.
Key measures include offering permanent positions, increasing basic monthly allowances from RM100 to RM200, and improving salaries through the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA). The ministry also aims to expand training and promotion opportunities to enhance career prospects. Other improvements include maintaining a 42-hour work week for shift workers and facilitating more flexible placements through mutual transfer arrangements.
Additionally, the ministry plans to expedite the absorption of contract pharmacists into permanent roles to address workforce shortages.
