Malaysia outlines 10 key focus areas for Budget 2027
The Malaysian government has outlined ten key focus areas for the 2027 Budget, aimed at realizing the MADANI Economy vision. According to the Ministry of Finance, the framework prioritizes easing the cost of living, increasing income, and providing quality employment to ensure a dignified life for citizens.
Key priorities include strengthening social protection and subsidies, with reviews planned for the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), including coverage for gig workers. The budget also emphasizes education, TVET, STEM, digital technology, and AI, alongside improving healthcare access and food and energy security.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, noted that rural development remains a central pillar. Through strategic engagement between the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and the budget team led by Second Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan, the government aims to address regional development gaps, particularly in Sabah, Sarawak, and rural areas, while supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
