Malaysia outlines peacebuilding priorities and UNRWA support at UN
At the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan outlined three key priorities to strengthen global peacebuilding: ensuring national ownership and inclusivity, translating peacebuilding efforts into coordinated actions, and enhancing national capacity and human capital.
Mohamad emphasized that peacebuilding should be a continuous process rather than a reactive measure to conflict. He also advocated for a more inclusive approach to multilateralism that is representative and responsive to the needs of the Global South, calling for reforms in international financial institutions and global governance.
Additionally, Malaysia reaffirmed its unwavering support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The country announced a renewed commitment of US$1 million to the agency for the period of 2026–2030, to be distributed in annual installments of US$200,000. Mohamad urged the international community to provide predictable and sustained funding for UNRWA and condemned incursions into UN premises, stressing that the agency is a vital lifeline for millions of Palestinian refugees.
