Malaysia reaches 99.75% 4G coverage in populated areas

Malaysia has achieved significant milestones in its digital infrastructure development. As of July 31, 2026, 4G network coverage in populated areas reached 99.75%, bringing the nation within 0.25 percentage points of its 100% coverage target under the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative. Additionally, 5G network coverage in populated areas has reached 90%.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil reported that fiber coverage has reached 10.12 million premises, exceeding the initial target of nine million. Median mobile broadband download speeds were recorded at 159.43 Mbps, surpassing the JENDELA target of 100 Mbps.

Through the PERSADA initiative, a collaboration between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Ministry of Health, connectivity has been strengthened across 150 hospitals and nearly 2,500 public health facilities to support electronic medical records and telehealth services. The ministry is also developing a National Digitalization Policy to provide a long-term framework for future digital industries and services.
